I’ve always found that Venice reveals itself differently when you step just a little outside the usual paths, and this view of the Tempio Votivo on Lido is one of those quiet rewards. I photographed this scene from across the Canale della Giudecca, watching the dome rise above the island’s treeline in a way that feels both grounded and monumental. Even in black and white, the atmosphere holds a kind of soft clarity—the water moving in gentle ripples, the buildings stretching along the shoreline, and the temple anchoring everything with its classical symmetry.

What I loved most here was the balance between the sacred and the everyday. The historic architecture sits right beside the steady rhythm of ferries, locals moving about their routines, and the subtle interruptions of trees shaped by the coastal wind. Venice can feel crowded and compressed, but Lido breathes. It gives the city a little room, and that sense of calm made this composition fall into place immediately. I wanted to preserve the spaciousness, so I pulled back and let the waterfront lead you toward the dome instead of pushing the structure forward too aggressively.

The monochrome treatment brings out the textures that caught my eye on location—the softened marble tones of the temple, the fine detail in the aging façades, and the wisps of atmospheric haze drifting over the lagoon. Venice in late morning light has a brightness that isn’t harsh; it lifts the architecture without flattening it. I waited for that moment when the water calmed just enough to hold subtle reflections, giving the image a quiet steadiness.

Everything about this photograph comes from being there, taking the time, and letting the scene unfold naturally. That’s always been important to me. I’m not assembling fantasies from software—I’m responding to real places, real weather, and real moments. Each print is signed by hand and includes a certificate of authenticity, created with the same care I brought to the moment this image was made.
