Venice Giudecca Canal Ferry and Wake Black and White Photography
Passenger Decks and a Small Boat Before a Tree Lined Shore
A passenger ferry crosses Venice’s Giudecca Canal, leaving a broad white wake across the darker water. A much smaller boat travels nearby, giving the scene a second scale. I photographed this canal view in 2005, interested in the movement of the boats against the steadier line of buildings and trees on the opposite shore. The ferry provides the main shape within an otherwise open stretch of water.
Its decks carry rows of windows, railings and small circular fittings. People appear as dark figures along the upper level, adding detail within the pale body of the vessel. I like how that compact arrangement remains clear against the water, while the smaller boat introduces a low, narrow outline to its right. The wake curves outward beneath them, breaking into bright patches and rippled lines across the foreground.
Beyond the canal, several buildings stand beside a broad group of trees. Their windows and rooflines add a finer architectural pattern along the shore, with another vessel visible near the right edge. The pale sky leaves space above that dense band of detail. Black and white brings ferry, wake and waterfront into clear tonal relationships, keeping movement and structure equally readable. As a print, this photograph offers a view of everyday Venetian transport within its setting, suited to an interest in maritime scenes, canal life and the quieter architecture of Venice.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
