Historic Chicago Clock Tower Framed By Modern Glass Skyscraper
Chicago has always fascinated me as a place where architecture stacks itself like layers of history. Walk a few blocks, and you can watch the city shift decades right in front of you. Old masonry buildings with carved details stand shoulder to shoulder with cold, reflective glass towers that reach into the clouds. That contrast is exactly what pulled me toward this scene.
In this photograph, the eye is immediately drawn to the strong brick clock tower rising above the riverfront buildings. The symmetry of the clocks, the heavy cornice, and the tall windows give it the weight and confidence of early-twentieth-century design. It feels deliberate and grounded. The structure carries the quiet authority of a time when buildings were meant to last generations.
Behind it, the city moves forward. A modern skyscraper climbs sharply into the sky, its glass grid repeating floor after floor until it disappears into the clouds. The two structures almost seem to be in conversation. One represents Chicago’s industrial backbone, the other its modern ambition.
I photographed this while walking the riverfront, exploring the dense architectural corridors that make Chicago one of the most visually interesting cities in North America. The angle of the buildings naturally led my eye upward, so I leaned into that perspective. Shooting from street level exaggerates the vertical lines, giving the image a sense of scale and momentum. The clock tower anchors the composition while the skyscraper pulls the frame skyward.
Converting the image to black and white felt natural. Chicago architecture carries incredible texture, and removing colour lets those details come forward. The brick surfaces, the steel framing of the windows, and the precise geometry of the skyscraper all become part of the visual rhythm. Light and shadow move across the buildings, giving the image depth while keeping the composition clean and structured.
This kind of photograph works beautifully in spaces that appreciate strong architectural forms. Offices, studios, and modern interiors often benefit from images that carry a sense of structure and energy. The upward movement of the buildings brings a subtle feeling of ambition and forward motion, while the historic clock tower keeps the scene grounded in history.
Each print is produced using archival pigment inks to ensure the tonal range and detail remain rich and stable for decades. I personally sign every print, and each one includes a certificate of authenticity.
What you’re seeing here is exactly what stood in front of me on that walk through Chicago: no constructed scenes, no digital inventions—just a moment of architecture and atmosphere captured on location.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
