Child Shielding Eyes From Harsh Sunlight In Street

There is an immediacy to this image that never lets me look away. The girl is close—closer than most portraits allow—and that proximity changes everything. Her arms are raised, cutting across the frame, casting sharp shadows that streak down her face. Those shadows don’t hide her—they reveal her. The light is hard, unforgiving, midday sun, and instead of softening the moment, it brings out every texture, every detail, every small imperfection that makes this image feel real.

Her expression sits somewhere between curiosity and defiance. There is no hesitation in her gaze. She looks directly into the camera, into me, into the viewer. The missing teeth, the slight tension in her mouth, the intensity in her eyes—it all comes together in a way that feels completely unfiltered. Nothing about this moment is staged or composed in a traditional sense. It happened quickly, instinctively, and that is exactly why it works.

I captured this while moving through a street in India, where moments like this unfold without warning. You don’t set them up. You react. The light, the gesture, the connection—it all aligned for a fraction of a second. That is the part of photography I trust the most. Being there, watching, waiting, and recognizing when something genuine appears in front of me.

The sepia tone adds another layer. It pulls the image slightly away from the present and places it in a more timeless space. The warmth softens the light's harshness just enough while still preserving the contrast that defines the image. It becomes less about a specific place and more about a universal moment—childhood, resilience, awareness.

Printed using archival pigment inks on professional paper, each piece holds the depth and contrast that gives this portrait its impact. Every print is part of a limited edition of 10, personally signed, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

This is the kind of image that holds attention in a space. It works in environments where you want something human, something raw—an office, a study, a hallway where people pause. It is not decorative in the traditional sense. It asks to be looked at.

Limited Edition of 10

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.

Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.

I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.

Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

Premium Archival Fine Art Prints

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.

The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.

Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.

Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide Delivery Included

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.

Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.

Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
