Direct Gaze Gray Beard And Flower Pendant
I made this black-and-white portrait in Dublin, Ireland, and what holds me first is the man's direct gaze. There is no elaborate setting and no gesture competing for attention. The photograph is built almost entirely around his face: the heavy eyebrows, gray beard, textured skin, single earring, and the flower pendant hanging against his dark clothing. I framed him straight on because the symmetry gives the portrait an immediate intensity while still allowing the small asymmetries in his face and accessories to keep it human.
This is the kind of image I look for in my street portrait photography collection. I am less interested in a polished expression than in a face that gives me something to study. Here, the eyes do most of the work. They meet the camera directly, but the expression remains guarded and difficult to read. That uncertainty is important to me. I do not need to invent a story about who he is or what his life has been. The photograph already contains enough character in the details that are actually there.
Converting the image to black and white strips away anything unnecessary and places more emphasis on shape, skin, hair, and tone. The background falls into deep shadow, leaving only a faint suggestion of the surroundings. His face separates gently from that darkness, while the beard and lighter hair create another layer of texture. Lower in the frame, the flower pendant becomes an unexpected counterpoint to the severity of his expression. I like that contradiction. It keeps the portrait from becoming one-dimensional.
I see this photograph working especially well in a contemporary, monochrome, or restrained interior where a strong human face can command its own space. It has impact from across a room, but the smaller details reward a closer look. This photograph is released as a limited edition of only 10 prints across all sizes. I produce each print using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper, personally sign it, and include a certificate of authenticity.
For me, the lasting strength of this Dublin portrait is still the stare—the kind of direct human connection that gives my eyes wall art collection its purpose.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.
Premium Archival Fine Art Prints
I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.
