Jazz Vocalist Holding Microphone During Havana Club Performance

The first thing that caught my attention that night was the smile. Not the kind of performer who forces the crowd, but the kind that comes from someone who has been living inside music for decades. In this photograph, the singer stands mid-performance in a small Havana jazz club, gripping the microphone as the band's rhythm carries through the room. The stage lights carve out his face and suit in sharp contrast, while the background fades softly into darkness. Everything about the moment felt alive.

What I like about this frame is the energy frozen in motion. His arm is extended, the microphone angled outward, almost like an invitation to the audience. The expression on his face carries warmth and confidence, and you can practically hear the music behind it. The blur of his moving hand tells you he’s not standing still. This is a performer deep in the rhythm of the night. The lighting in the club was dramatic, falling from above and slightly behind, which cast strong sculptural shadows on his face while still revealing the texture of his suit and the joy in his expression.

The atmosphere inside Havana’s music clubs is something special. The rooms are often small, the air thick with conversation, laughter, and the sound of instruments that feel like they’ve been played for generations. The walls carry history. The musicians carry pride. When the music starts, everything else in the room fades away.

I was there with my wife that evening, simply enjoying the music like everyone else. As usual, I had my camera with me. I tend to travel that way because you never know when a moment like this will appear. When the singer leaned into the light and lifted the microphone, I knew instantly it was the kind of image that only happens when you’re present in the room. Nothing staged, nothing recreated later—just a fleeting moment during a live performance in Havana.

Black and white works especially well for this image because it strips the scene down to expression, gesture, and light. Without colour distractions, the viewer focuses on the emotion in the performer’s face and the theatrical lighting that defines the scene. It gives the photograph a timeless character that fits perfectly with jazz itself.

For collectors who appreciate music, culture, or expressive portrait photography, this image brings a strong sense of atmosphere into a space. It works beautifully in music rooms, living spaces, studios, or anywhere that celebrates creativity and performance.

I personally sign each print and include a certificate of authenticity. The photograph is produced using archival pigment inks on museum-quality paper to ensure the detail and tonal depth of the black-and-white image remain rich for decades.

Limited Edition of 10

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.

Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.

I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.

Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

Premium Archival Fine Art Prints

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.

The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.

Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.

Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide Delivery Included

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.

Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.

Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
