Faded Branding On Prairie Farm Tractor Panel

This photograph is about the use of more than machinery. It’s about what happens when something is built to work for decades and then keeps going long after anyone expected it to. The metal panel of this Massey Harris 90 Special has taken on that unmistakable prairie patina that only comes from windblown dust, sun, moisture, and years of being left out in the open to do its job without ceremony.

The original branding is still visible, but just barely. MASSEY HARRIS sits across the side panel like a memory instead of a statement, slowly dissolving into the textured surface of oxidised steel. Below it, the faint 90 Special marking has become part of the metal itself. Nothing here is decorative. Every scratch, stain, and worn edge is the result of work being done somewhere out on open farmland, far from any showroom or museum.

The circular shield leaning to the right side of the frame changes the image's overall visual weight. It interrupts the long horizontal line of the tractor body and pulls the eye back down into the mechanical structure. What could easily read as a flat typographic study becomes something heavier and more industrial, something built from parts instead of surfaces.

I photographed this on location in rural Saskatchewan while exploring an old prairie farmstead that had been quietly holding onto its working past. It wasn’t curated or restored. It was simply there, as it had been for years, part of the landscape rather than separate from it.

Each print is personally signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. It is produced using archival pigment inks on Epson Premium Luster paper to accurately preserve the tonal range and surface detail captured in the original scene.
