Canada Quebec Bonaventure Island Northern Gannet Birds Daylight Wildlife Wall Art Photography | Limited Edition of 10
This photograph captures a tight, intimate grouping of Northern gannets perched together on Bonaventure Island, just off the Gaspé Peninsula in Quebec. Their elongated necks overlap and weave through the frame, creating a natural rhythm of curves, beaks, and pale plumage set against a deep, subdued background. The composition draws the eye immediately to their piercing blue eyes and sharply defined markings, revealing both elegance and intensity in equal measure.
The lighting is soft yet directional, highlighting the smooth white feathers and warm golden tones along the crowns and napes of each bird. Subtle shadows add depth without overpowering the scene, allowing the plumage's textures and the sculptural forms of the birds’ bodies to remain crisp and tactile. There is a quiet tension here—three individuals sharing the same narrow space, alert and aware, yet calm in their proximity.
Bonaventure Island is one of the most significant seabird colonies in North America, and standing among thousands of nesting gannets is a sensory experience unlike any other. The constant movement, sound, and closeness of the birds create moments where patterns emerge organically, not by design but by presence and patience. This image is the result of waiting for that brief alignment where gesture, spacing, and expression come together naturally.
What draws me to scenes like this is the balance between order and unpredictability. These are wild animals, unposed and unscripted, yet their interactions often feel almost choreographed. The photograph holds that balance—structured enough to feel intentional, but alive with the subtle variations that only exist in real environments.
This photograph was created on location from lived experience, standing within the colony and observing these birds at close range. Each print is personally signed by me and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, confirming it as an original photographic artwork.
