Collapsed Prairie Farmhouse Surrounded By Tall Grass And Open Sky
There is something about the open prairie that makes abandoned buildings feel even more exposed to the passage of time. Nothing hides here. The wind, the seasons, and decades of weather slowly take their toll until what remains is a quiet structure standing alone in the grass. This farmhouse in southeastern Saskatchewan is exactly that kind of place.
The building immediately caught my attention because of its posture. The roof has sagged dramatically in the center, and the wooden siding has warped and shifted over the years from prairie winds and snow. One entire section of the wall is collapsing outward, as if the structure finally gave up resisting gravity. Broken windows expose the dark interior while tall grasses grow up around the base, reclaiming the land that once surrounded an active farmstead.
What I find compelling about scenes like this is the balance between fragility and resilience. Even in its deteriorated state, the farmhouse still stands. The small rooftop vent, the wooden boards, and the skeletal window frames remain recognizable pieces of a life that once existed here. Standing in the field, photographing this structure, I could imagine the decades of prairie seasons that had passed over this land—harvests, storms, and quiet winters—long before the building became what it is now.
The sky that day played a major role in the photograph. High clouds stretched across the prairie horizon, adding movement and texture above the farmhouse while the grasses in the foreground swayed in the wind. I positioned myself slightly lower so the structure would sit strongly against the sky, allowing the sagging roofline and broken windows to become the visual center of the scene.
This photograph was taken on location during my travels across Saskatchewan, where abandoned farm buildings often appear suddenly along quiet rural roads. Many of these places disappear each year as time and weather slowly erase them. Capturing them while they still exist has become part of the appeal of photographing the Canadian prairie.
Each print is produced with archival pigment inks on archival fine art paper to preserve the detail and tonal depth of the original black-and-white photograph. Every piece is personally signed and includes a certificate of authenticity.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
