Weathered Freedom Poster With Torn Layers On Chicago Street
This photograph began with a simple moment of curiosity while walking through downtown Chicago. On a street corner wall covered with layers of old paper and paste, a large political poster caught my attention—not because it was pristine, but because it was falling apart. Torn edges curled outward, the surface bubbled with age and weather, and dark streaks from old adhesive dripped across the portrait. What remained was something far more interesting than a fresh poster. It had become a piece of accidental street art.
The word FREEDOM stretches boldly across the lower half of the image, but the poster itself tells a different story. The upper section is shredded, exposing fragments of older paper layers beneath. The portrait looks outward with a bright expression, while streaks of decay run through the image like rain stains. Bits of type, partial graphics, and torn textures surround the central figure, creating a visual collage built by weather, time, and the city itself.
Chicago is a place where public walls constantly change. Posters are layered, covered, torn, and replaced. Over time, the surface becomes a visual record of the street. What drew me to this scene was the moment when the original message began to disappear, but the image itself grew stronger. The deterioration added structure and texture, turning a simple poster into something far more complex.
I photographed this scene on location while exploring the streets of Chicago, drawn to the graphic contrast between the torn paper and the strong vertical lines running through the image. Standing there in front of the wall, it felt as if the city had collaborated to create the final composition. The photograph captures that exact moment before the next poster inevitably replaces it.
Printed with archival pigment inks using museum-quality materials, each print is produced on Epson Premium Luster paper for exceptional tonal depth and detail. I personally sign every print and include a certificate of authenticity.
This image works especially well in modern interiors, offices, and contemporary spaces where graphic textures and urban themes add character. The monochrome treatment emphasizes contrast and structure, allowing the torn layers and expressive textures to take center stage without distraction.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
