Golden Eagle Wings Rise Above The Rider
This black-and-white photograph captures a Mongolian eagle hunter on horseback at the instant his golden eagle spreads its wings above him. The layered feathers rise behind the rider like a fan, while the eagle’s head projects to the left and the horse faces directly toward the camera. It is the kind of moment I look for in Mongolia fine art photography: unplanned, visually complex, and rooted in a real encounter.
I made this photograph in western Mongolia, in the mountain country of Bayan-Ölgii, where Kazakh eagle hunters maintain a demanding relationship with the birds they train. I spent a week living with this group of riders, eating with them and sleeping in yurts heated by coal. Being present for their daily routines gave me time to move beyond a staged portrait and watch how the rider, horse, and eagle worked together.
What makes the image successful for me is the way three distinct figures become one composition. The eagle’s open wings create the largest shape, the rider’s weathered face holds the center, and the horse’s alert expression anchors the bottom of the frame. Heavy fur, layered feathers, leather tack, and the distant Mongolian landscape give the photograph a rich range of texture. Converting the scene to black and white removes distracting color and lets those forms, expressions, and tonal relationships carry the image.
There is movement here, but also control. The eagle appears immense and unpredictable, yet the rider remains calm in the saddle. His steady expression contrasts with the bird’s extended wings and the horse’s bared teeth. That combination of energy and composure gives the photograph a strong presence within cultural wall art photography, without turning the people or their traditions into spectacle.
This piece works especially well in a living room, office, library, or contemporary interior where a vertical photograph can create a strong focal point. The monochrome palette pairs naturally with neutral materials, dark wood, leather, and simple modern furnishings. It will appeal to collectors drawn to documentary portraiture, horses, traditional ways of life, and photographs that reward a closer look.
Each limited edition print is personally signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. The photograph is produced with archival pigment inks on archival paper, preserving the fine detail in the feathers, fur, face, and surrounding landscape. Only ten prints will be made in the edition, keeping the work personal and genuinely limited. This photograph also belongs naturally among my people wall art collection.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
