Cracked Mud Patterns And Water Channels In Dry Swamp
This photograph grew out of a moment that most people would probably walk past without noticing. It was taken in a quiet swamp area near my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, during a dry stretch when the water level had dropped enough to expose the fragile skin of the marsh floor. What revealed itself was an intricate network of shallow channels cutting through cracked mud, almost like a miniature river system carved across the ground.
From above, the patterns become surprisingly complex. Thin veins of dark water snake across the frame while the surrounding surface breaks into textured plates of drying earth. Small pieces of grass and reeds lie scattered across the mud like debris after a retreating tide. The more I looked at it, the more the scene felt like an aerial landscape in miniature — a natural map etched into the swamp floor.
What drew me in was the quiet geometry of it all. The winding channel running through the image creates a natural path for the eye to follow, bending and twisting as it moves across the surface. The cracked mud adds a second layer of structure, forming irregular shapes that feel both organic and deliberate. It’s one of those places where nature slowly composes something abstract without ever intending to.
I chose to present the photograph in black and white because color would only distract from what really matters here: texture, contrast, and form. The dark water lines stand out clearly against the pale, dry mud, while the scattered reeds create a fine network of lines across the frame. Without color competing for attention, the photograph becomes entirely about structure and surface.
This is very much a photograph rooted in place. I captured it while walking through the wetlands around Haliburton, an area I’ve explored for years. These quiet corners of the landscape often reveal subtle details that most people overlook, but when the light and conditions align, they can become surprisingly compelling subjects.
Each print is produced using archival pigment inks on archival photographic paper to ensure longevity and fidelity to the original image. I personally sign every print, and each one includes a certificate of authenticity confirming its place within the limited edition.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
