Turquoise Mineral Basin Patterns In Icelandic Geothermal Field
Iceland’s geothermal landscapes have a way of blurring the line between geology and abstract art. In the volcanic regions surrounding Lake Mývatn in northern Iceland, the earth constantly reveals new colors and textures as underground heat interacts with mineral-rich water. Standing there on the ground, I feel the terrain is rugged and unpredictable. Steam drifts quietly across the surface, vents bubble in places, and the soil is stained with layers of minerals built up over centuries.
But the real transformation happens once you see the landscape from the air.
This aerial photograph captures a geothermal mineral basin where water, heat, and volcanic earth have created an intricate network of colors and textures. Turquoise geothermal water flows through the center of the frame, branching outward like veins across the mineral surface. Surrounding it are layers of white mineral crusts, rust-colored deposits, and deep golden earth tones that stretch across the volcanic ground.
What struck me most while photographing this scene was the complexity of the patterns forming across the terrain. From above, the geothermal basin feels almost organic, like a living structure slowly expanding outward. Mineral deposits create circular shapes and branching formations, while small pools and vents appear scattered across the landscape like islands within the geothermal field.
The turquoise water channels pull the viewer’s eye through the composition, beginning at the lower portion of the image and gradually spreading upward into a web of mineral textures. In some places, the water collects into deeper pools, while in others it thins into delicate streams that trace the surface of the earth.
I photographed this while flying my drone above the geothermal fields near Lake Mývatn, one of the most geologically active areas in Iceland. From the ground, the geothermal field feels vast but fragmented. Once the drone rises above it, however, the landscape reveals an entirely different perspective. The pools, vents, and mineral basins connect visually, forming patterns that feel almost painterly when viewed from above.
I personally sign each limited-edition print of this photograph and include a certificate of authenticity confirming its place in the edition. The image is produced using archival pigment inks on museum-quality materials to preserve the subtle mineral colors and intricate textures captured in the original aerial photograph.
Because of its natural abstract character and vibrant contrast between cool blues and warm earth tones, this image works particularly well as statement wall art in contemporary interiors. The flowing geothermal patterns create visual movement across the frame, while the mineral colors bring warmth and depth that complement a wide range of spaces.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
