Joyful Child Leaning In A Doorway With Playful Energy
Some photographs happen quietly. Others explode with life the moment you raise the camera. This one was the second kind.
I was walking through a narrow neighbourhood lane in India when I noticed a dark doorway cut into a weathered wall. It was the kind of place photographers are naturally drawn to. The outside light was soft and directional, spilling across the threshold while the interior stayed almost completely black. A perfect stage for a portrait if someone stepped into it.
And then this kid did exactly that.
He leaned out of the doorway like he owned the world, a bright grin stretching across his face. His green shirt had slipped halfway off his shoulder, and he twisted his body toward the light with this spontaneous, playful energy that felt completely natural. Nothing about it was posed. It was pure curiosity and mischief all at once.
The light was doing something beautiful across his face. The doorway created a natural frame while the dark interior behind him pushed every detail forward. His eyes caught the light first, then the shape of his smile, then the subtle texture of skin and hair that makes portraits feel alive instead of staged. The whole moment lasted maybe a few seconds.
If you look closely, you’ll notice another child deeper inside the doorway, half hidden in the shadow. That small detail adds a quiet layer to the scene. One child confidently stepping forward into the light, another lingering in the darkness behind him. It’s the kind of unplanned visual story that street photography gives you when you’re patient and open to the moment.
I photographed this on location while travelling through India, wandering neighbourhoods the way I always do when exploring a new place. No setup, no direction, just observing life as it unfolded in front of me. Moments like this are why I’ve spent decades photographing people and places around the world.
This image works beautifully as wall art because of its contrast and emotional clarity. The deep shadows surrounding the doorway immediately draw your attention to the boy’s expression, and the vibrant green shirt adds a subtle spark of colour against the neutral wall and dark interior. Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.
Premium Archival Fine Art Prints
I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
