Red Fishing Boats In The First Morning Light
I made this photograph in Peggys Cove, Nova Scotia, during the quiet interval when dawn had arrived but the village had not yet awakened. I had reached the famous lighthouse before sunrise and photographed it as the first warmth entered the sky. Afterward, I left my wife in our Sprinter van and walked down into the fishing village alone. The light was rising at exactly the right angle, the harbor was still, and there was nobody around to disturb the scene.
What drew me beyond the lighthouse was the working character of the cove. This view belongs naturally within my Peggys Cove wall art collection, yet it reveals a side of the village that visitors sometimes overlook. Two red fishing boats sit against weathered wharves, wooden sheds, stacked traps, ropes, buoys, and modest homes climbing the rocky ground. Nothing feels arranged. Every object belongs to the daily rhythm of a real Atlantic fishing community.
The warm morning light gives the scene its structure. It brushes the boats and aged shingles, catches the moss along the rooflines, and separates the waterfront buildings from the cool blue sky. Below, the calm water gathers broken reflections of hulls, masts, pilings, and windows. The rough stones in the foreground create a natural entrance into the harbor, while the boats form a strong red center that holds the composition together.
I especially like the balance between beauty and utility here. My harbor wall art photography often includes evidence of work because those details give a coastal scene its identity. The worn boards, hanging lines, patched buildings, and practical equipment prevent the photograph from becoming a polished postcard. It remains peaceful, but it is not artificial. The village feels inhabited even though no person appears within the frame.
This photograph suits a room that benefits from warmth, color, and a strong sense of place. The red boats add visual energy without overpowering the quieter grays, greens, and blues surrounding them. It would work particularly well in a coastal home, cottage, study, living room, or any interior shaped by an affection for maritime life and traditional working communities.
Each limited edition print is produced with archival pigment inks on archival paper. I personally sign every print, and each one includes a certificate of authenticity. The edition is limited to ten, preserving the rarity of the finished artwork while allowing the photograph to retain the intimate character of that empty morning.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
