There’s something wonderfully playful about stumbling across an oversized Halloween decoration on a quiet Ontario farm. Out in the countryside, where fields stretch wide and trees line the horizon, someone decided to take a few hay bales, pumpkins, and imagination, and build a character that makes you smile the moment you see it. I’ve always had a soft spot for these kinds of seasonal displays—homemade, quirky, and full of personality. They remind me that art doesn’t always have to be polished or gallery-bound. Sometimes it’s right there in the field, crafted by farmers with a sense of humour and a knack for bringing joy to passersby.
This particular creation, a towering scarecrow-like figure made of hay bales, is decked out with a cheerful grin, outstretched arms, and a collection of pumpkins gathered at its feet. It’s both whimsical and a little surreal, especially captured here in black and white. The absence of colour turns what could easily be seen as festive into something slightly eerie—like a page pulled from a storybook where rural life and imagination collide. That’s the charm of monochrome: it strips away the obvious cues and leaves you with mood, texture, and shape.

Growing up in Canada, I’ve always associated this time of year with gatherings, barns, and fields dotted with decorations. What drew me to this scene wasn’t just the clever craftsmanship of the hay figure, but the way it stood alone on the field, framed by rows of trees and drifting clouds above. In monochrome, the texture of the hay pops against the smooth curve of the sky, and the pumpkins at the base add their grounding presence. It feels simultaneously like a rural celebration and a quiet work of folk art.
This is real photography—captured on site, with no trickery or artificial construction. Just a farm, a handmade decoration, and a moment of seasonal charm preserved through the camera. To me, that’s what makes the image compelling: it honours both the creativity of the farmers and the beauty of the countryside itself.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.
Premium Archival Fine Art Prints
I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
