Chicago Skyscraper Rising Into Fog Above The River | Limited Edition of 10
Downtown Chicago Tower Disappearing Into Low Fog Over The River
Chicago has always been a city defined by height, structure, and bold architecture. When I photographed this scene along the Chicago River, what immediately caught my attention was the way the tallest tower was vanishing into the fog above the skyline. The upper floors dissolve into a heavy layer of cloud while the lower half remains sharply defined against the surrounding buildings. It creates a moment when the architecture feels almost surreal, as if the city itself is emerging from the weather.
The composition unfolds in layers. The Chicago River sits quietly in the foreground, providing a reflective base to the scene. Above the water, a steel bridge stretches across the frame, carrying traffic through the city while visually anchoring the skyline behind it. The surrounding towers rise tightly together, forming a dense urban wall of glass, steel, and repeating patterns. Windows, balconies, and reflections create a rhythmic texture across the buildings, while the central tower pushes dramatically upward into the fog.
What makes the image particularly striking is the contrast between the city's solid geometry and the soft atmosphere above it. The fog hides the top of the skyscraper, leaving the viewer to imagine where the building actually ends. In black and white, the scene becomes even more about shape, contrast, and structure. Light reflects off the glass facades while darker tones gather in the clouds, creating a moody skyline that feels both powerful and slightly mysterious.
I photographed this on location along the Chicago River during a moment when the weather shifted quickly. The fog rolled in low across the skyline, and the city’s tallest structures began disappearing into it one by one. Moments like this are unpredictable and fleeting, which is exactly why I pay attention to changing conditions when I’m exploring a city with a camera.
This image works particularly well in spaces that appreciate strong architectural design. Offices, modern living rooms, and contemporary interiors often benefit from artwork that has both structure and atmosphere. The vertical energy of the tower,, combined with the horizontal bridge and river,, creates a balanced composition that feels bold yet calm enough to live with every day.
Each print is produced using archival pigment inks to ensure long-lasting detail and tonal depth. I personally sign every print and include a certificate of authenticity so collectors know the work comes directly from my photographic archive.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.
Premium Archival Fine Art Prints
I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.
Worldwide Delivery Included
Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
