Historic Log Cabin Surrounded By Northern Ontario Forest
There’s something deeply grounding about an old log cabin that has stood quietly for decades. The moment I came across this one in Ontario, it felt less like a building and more like a presence—solid, patient, and entirely at home within the forest that surrounds it. Photographed in black and white, the scene strips away distraction and leaves behind what matters most: texture, structure, and the quiet relationship between human craftsmanship and the land itself.
The cabin sits centered within a dense wall of trees, its stacked timber walls creating bold horizontal lines that contrast with the vertical rhythm of the forest behind it. Each log carries the marks of age—cracks, grain patterns, and weathering that only come from years of enduring seasons. The metal roof above it feels newer by comparison, catching the soft daylight and drawing the eye upward toward the steep triangular gable.
What first caught my attention was the front entrance. The small, peaked porch frames the doorway like a quiet welcome, decorated with plants and rustic details that suggest the place is still cared for. There’s a sense of life here—subtle but unmistakable. The window curtains are drawn slightly aside, and the surrounding garden plants have grown in naturally, blurring the line between cultivated space and woodland.
In front of the cabin, an old split rail fence leans gently with age. It isn’t perfectly straight anymore, but that’s exactly what makes it beautiful. Time has pushed and pulled at the wood, leaving behind shapes that feel almost sculptural. The fence forms a natural foreground that anchors the image, guiding the eye slowly toward the house and then into the thick trees beyond.
Photographing rural Ontario scenes like this has always been part of my work as a photographer. Places like this are not staged or reconstructed—they exist, quietly waiting to be noticed. I encountered this cabin while exploring back roads through Ontario’s countryside, where these historic structures often appear suddenly between stretches of forest and farmland.
The decision to present the photograph in black and white came naturally. Removing color emphasizes the strong geometry of the cabin and the layered textures of wood, leaves, and grass. It turns the image into something timeless, closer to memory than documentation.
Each print is produced using archival pigment inks on museum-quality paper and is personally signed by me. Every piece also includes a certificate of authenticity confirming its limited-edition status.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
