Traditional Rorbu Cabins Along Mortsund Waterfront
At Mortsund in Norway’s Lofoten Islands, a row of traditional red rorbu cabins follows the edge of the water. Their steep white-trimmed gables repeat from large to small, leading the eye along the timber walkway and toward the quiet harbor. Behind them, a bare rock ridge rises abruptly, while the stretched cloud cover makes the sky feel broad and unsettled. This is the kind of straightforward coastal character I look for in Norwegian coastal wall art: buildings shaped by place, weather, and working history.
I photographed this scene on location in Mortsund, walking the shoreline and looking for a viewpoint that would keep the cabins, rock, and water connected. What caught me first was not a single building but the rhythm of the whole row. The cabin fronts form a measured sequence, and the railings and pier create horizontal lines that hold that sequence together. Rough shoreline stones in the foreground give the photograph weight, while the smooth water creates a quieter counterpoint.
Most of the image is held in restrained gray tones, with the muted red siding left visible. That limited color draws attention to the cabins without separating them from their surroundings. The white trim picks out each roofline and window, and the small points of warm interior light give the structures a lived-in presence. For me, that balance of human shelter and severe landscape is central to the Lofoten photography collection, where villages and terrain constantly define one another.
The composition works because the repeated cabin shapes provide order while nearly every surrounding surface feels irregular. Weathered wood, angular stone, dark water, and moving clouds each carry a different texture. The large rock formation is not simply a background; it presses close behind the buildings and makes clear how compact this settlement is. I kept enough sky in the frame to emphasize the scale and isolation without losing the architectural details that give the photograph its identity.
This photograph suits someone drawn to Nordic coastal design, traditional wooden architecture, and images that feel calm without being delicate. Its horizontal format works especially well above a sofa, console, bed, or long dining surface. The subdued palette can sit naturally with neutral interiors, dark woods, concrete, or simple Scandinavian furnishings, while the red provides a controlled accent.
Each limited edition print is personally signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. I print the photograph with archival pigment inks on premium archival paper, taking care to retain the separation in the dark rocks, the softness of the water, and the fine lines of the cabin siding. This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
