Old Brick Warehouse Standing Silent Along Industrial Canal

I remember stopping here in 2013 with no real plan beyond following the waterfront to see what was left behind from an earlier version of the city. Gdansk has a way of mixing its polished historic core with these forgotten industrial stretches that feel as though they were stepped away from one afternoon and never returned to. This brick tower stood directly along the canal, rising out of the water’s edge with an unmistakable symmetry that immediately caught my attention.

The building itself is stark—layered brickwork climbing several stories with rows of boarded windows stacked in quiet repetition. Metal supports extend outward from both sides, where loading platforms, once connected to cranes or walkways, now hang empty against the sky. The central platform remains, suspended above the lower doors, creating a visual break in the otherwise rigid structure. Everything about it feels deliberate but abandoned, from the sealed window openings to the narrow vertical tower rising above the roofline.

Across the water, fragments of surrounding buildings remain in various states of collapse. Sections of the wall have fallen away entirely, exposing interiors that haven’t been used in decades. The still surface of the canal reflects the lower brickwork and dock supports, adding a subtle sense of weight to the scene that grounds the structure in its environment. Photographing this in black and white allowed the texture of the brick and concrete to define the entire frame without distraction.

This was photographed on location while I explored the industrial riverfronts of Gdansk. Structures like this were already becoming rare then, and there’s a strong chance that what you’re seeing here no longer exists in the same form today.

Each print is personally signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. It is produced using archival pigment inks to ensure long-term tonal stability and depth.
