People and Golden Light Along the Havana Waterfront
People fill the seawall in this Havana photograph, sitting above the rough shore while children gather below. Warm evening light reaches the long wall and the buildings behind it, tying the different parts of the scene together. I photographed this near the Malecón, where the waterfront gives everyday life a place to unfold in the open.
The wall makes a strong diagonal through the vertical frame. It separates the street above from the lower shoreline, but the people on both sides keep those spaces connected. Some sit with their legs over the edge; others face one another in small groups. Their differing postures give the scene its rhythm.
Behind them, older façades stand beside a taller building, with traffic moving along the road. I kept that architecture in the view because it gives the gathering its setting. The city is close, and the waterfront is part of it rather than a place apart.
The golden light brings out the worn surface of the seawall. Its stains and uneven texture remain clearly visible, while the figures introduce cooler blues and smaller points of color. I like the balance between that broad warm structure and the many individual gestures around it.
For me, the interest lies in how much is happening without one person becoming the whole story. This is a photograph for someone who values street scenes as much as landmarks: a Havana evening seen through shared space, familiar surroundings, and people finding their own place along the water.
