Vintage Wire Wheel and Firestone Whitewall Photograph
Crossing Chrome Spokes Beneath A Raised Name And Dark Tread
The broad whitewall gives the wheel's fine spokes room to stand out. I made this black and white close-up at a classic car exhibition, where the Firestone lettering and reflective metal drew me toward a smaller view of the vehicle. The tyre arcs across the upper frame, with the wire wheel filling the darker space below.
I like the contrast between the simple band and the complex centre. The raised name creates a restrained pattern across the pale rubber, while the spokes cross at several angles around the polished hub. Bright lines appear against deep shadow, giving the wheel depth without needing a wider view of the car. Along the top, the tread adds larger, more angular marks. Its rougher surface is quite different from the smooth whitewall and glossy metal, so the photograph offers three distinct textures within one rounded form.
The close framing lets the wheel extend beyond the edges. That crop makes the arrangement feel larger than the small detail I was standing beside, while preserving enough of the tyre and hub to remain clearly automotive. I wanted to keep the visual precision that first caught my attention at the exhibition: the raised letters, the circular rim, and the narrow spokes meeting around the centre. In monochrome, those details connect through light and shadow, turning an ordinary vehicle component into a complete photographic subject.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
