Great Wall Watchtowers Across Mountain Ridges Black and White Photography
Pale Stonework Winding Through Dark Hills and Distant Peaks
The wall keeps changing direction in this photograph. It drops across the nearer hillside, climbs toward a watchtower and continues along ridges farther back. I made this view of the Great Wall of China in 2015, and the recurring turns give me a way to follow the landscape beyond the most prominent stretch of stonework. The scale comes from seeing several sections together, with smaller towers appearing along the distant skyline.
Black and white gives the pale walls a clear presence against the darker vegetation. The closest towers have a strong, square shape, while the more distant sections become finer lines across the hills. I enjoy moving between those two readings: the individual structures and the longer route they form. Rough rock, low growth and uneven slopes keep the surrounding terrain varied, so the wall never settles into a simple straight line.
A broad area of light sky leaves space above the ridges. Below it, the photograph is much more intricate, with overlapping hills and stretches of masonry that disappear and reappear. Standing there brought a sense of connection to the stories associated with this place; the photograph holds that feeling through the relationship between the structure and its setting.
I would choose this image for someone drawn to architectural landscapes or travel photography with a restrained palette. Across a wall, its appeal lies in the steady discovery of another bend, another tower and another ridge. The broader view gives room to look, while the repeating stone forms keep the composition connected.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
