Sighisoara Clock Tower Photography Above a Cobbled Passage
Stone Steps Lead Towards an Arch Beneath the Tower
The cobbled approach gives this Sighisoara tower photograph its depth. I made the image in Romania with the clock face and pointed roof rising above an arched passage, while steps and worn paving lead in from the foreground. In black and white, the route through the architecture matters as much as the tower itself.
I like the way the nearby walls frame the view. On the right, a plain sloping wall provides a broad surface with small marks and patches of wear. On the left, a timber-supported covered section introduces a finer pattern of posts and diagonal braces. Between them, the cobbles and shallow steps carry the eye towards the darker arch.
Above that passage, the tower becomes more elaborate. Narrow openings, the round clock face and the layered roofline gather into a tall silhouette against the pale sky. I wanted to keep the surrounding buildings visible because they give the tower its setting, rather than treating it as an isolated monument.
When I arrived in Sighisoara, the old town’s streets drew me into views like this, where ordinary routes and historic architecture share the same space. The vertical composition follows that experience from the ground upward. As a print, it suits someone drawn to Romanian travel or textured European buildings. For me, its lasting interest is the contrast between the rough, close surfaces along the passage and the more intricate tower above, all connected by the path through the frame.
