Elderly Elephant Portrait Serengeti Black And White | Limited Edition of 10
Aging Bull Elephant With a Single Tusk Moving Slowly
There’s a weight to this image that goes beyond what you see at first glance. An old bull elephant stands in open grassland, moving forward with a slow, deliberate rhythm that only comes with age. His head is heavy, his skin deeply folded, every crease telling a story of years spent in a harsh and unforgiving environment. One tusk remains, curved and worn. The other is gone, lost long ago—likely in a fight that this animal survived.
What draws me in here is the balance between strength and vulnerability. He’s still powerful, still commanding space, but there’s no denying the passage of time. You can see it in the way his ears hang, in the texture of his skin, in the way he carries himself. This isn’t a moment of action—it’s a moment of presence. Quiet, steady, and real.
I photographed this in northern Tanzania, in an area where this particular bull was well known. He moved slowly, often alone, and there was a sense among the guides that he had seen more than most. Standing there, watching him approach, there was no rush. No need to chase anything. The scene unfolded on its own terms, and I let it.
The black-and-white treatment strips everything down to what matters—form, texture, and tone. Without color, your eye goes straight to the structure of the animal. The contrast between the pale tusk and the dark, weathered skin becomes more pronounced. The background falls away, leaving nothing to distract from the subject itself.
This piece works well in spaces where you want something grounded and quiet yet visually strong. It holds attention without shouting for it. Offices, living rooms, or any environment where you want a sense of calm strength—it fits naturally.
Each limited edition print is personally signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. It is produced using archival pigment inks on museum-grade paper, ensuring the detail and tonal depth remain intact over time.
