Warm Autumn Crowns Rise Above a Broad Reflective Lake
Warm evening light reaches the autumn crowns of cypress trees standing across Caddo Lake. The sky stays a soft blue-grey, and the water reflects the trees in muted gold and brown. This colour landscape photograph has an open view, with a larger pair of cypresses near the right and smaller trees spreading along the distant shore.
The scene interested me because the light brings out the trees without turning them into simple silhouettes. Their foliage, hanging moss, and branching shapes remain visible. I like how those details sit within a much wider stretch of lake, giving the photograph both a clear subject and room around it.
The taller trees have broad, irregular crowns. Their branches reach sideways before tapering into smaller patches of foliage, while moss hangs below them in thin strands. Against the pale sky, those different edges are easy to follow.
The foreground water adds a gentler pattern. Fine ripples cross the reflected trunks and colour, keeping the surface from becoming an exact mirror. Farther away, the lake appears smoother, allowing the smaller trees to remain distinct along the horizon.
I wanted this view to hold the quieter side of the day’s last light. The autumn colour is warm, but the sky and open water stay restrained. Together, they create a Caddo Lake landscape with depth, varied tree shapes, and a calm transition from the nearer reflections to the distant shore.
