Heavy White Branches Along the Edge of the Forest
The snow has made each evergreen look broader and heavier. Branches that would normally read as fine layers now carry thick white edges, turning this Haliburton Highlands forest into a row of distinct winter shapes. I wanted the photograph to hold that weight without losing the darker woodland underneath.
Two larger trees near the middle give the view its main structure. Their drooping branches reach down toward the snowy ground, while smaller trees and bare twigs fill the spaces around them. The scene is dense, but the pale covering makes individual forms easier to follow. A little sky above the tree line provides a quieter area beyond the detailed forest edge.
I enjoy the contrast between the evergreens and the finer branches nearby. Snow on the larger boughs creates broad, soft shapes; on the smaller twigs, it becomes a network of narrow white lines. The dark gaps among the trees are just as useful, giving the snow its brightness and making the forest feel deeper than its outer edge.
