Florida Keys Golden Sunset and Seven Mile Bridge Photography
A Distant Crossing Beneath Layers of Golden Cloud
The bridge is almost a line on the horizon. Above it, golden light spreads through the sky, interrupted by a heavy band of dark cloud. I photographed this Florida Keys sunset from a boat in 2012, keeping the Seven Mile Bridge small enough for the evening sky and open water to lead the scene.
That difference in scale is what I enjoy most. The bridge’s repeated supports are visible if you look closely, but they never compete with the clouds. A dark strip of land anchors the right side of the horizon, while the crossing stretches away to the left. Together, they give the light a firm lower edge without closing off the view.
There are several kinds of gold in the photograph. The upper clouds are softly lit, the lower sky glows more strongly, and the water carries broken traces of the same colour among darker ripples. The thick cloud across the middle adds weight and makes the brighter gaps beneath it feel particularly concentrated.
From this viewpoint on the water, a familiar piece of Florida Keys infrastructure becomes a modest part of a much larger evening. I wanted to preserve that relationship rather than turn the image into a close architectural portrait. It suits someone drawn to sunset seascapes, warm coastal colour or memories of the Keys, with the bridge providing a specific sense of place inside a broad, light filled scene.
