Seated Toronto Rooftop Mannequin Black and White Photography
Dangling Feet And A Pale Figure Above The Street
A mannequin sits on a Toronto roof edge with its feet hanging below the line of the gutter. I photographed it from the street in black and white, keeping the brick wall, decorated railing and building details around the pale figure. Its casual-looking pose makes the unexpected placement especially noticeable.
I like the contrast between a familiar human shape and a setting where it seems out of place. The knees, extended arm and upward-tilted face suggest an ordinary seated gesture, but the smooth body makes its identity as a display object clear. A knitted covering tied beneath the chin adds another small, unusual detail.
The architecture gives the composition a strong framework. Brick courses run across the background, while the roof edge and garland form diagonals beneath and behind the figure. The dangling feet interrupt the lower line, bringing the body into the space below the roof.
This is the companion to my standing mannequin photograph from the same rooftop installation. I chose square compositions because I liked their relationship as a pair: the setting is shared, but the gestures are different. This image also holds together on its own through the seated pose and pale shape against textured brick. For me, the visual humour comes from the real arrangement I found, with an ordinary city building becoming a stage for something unexpectedly strange.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
