Mexican Wetland Pier and Billowing Clouds Black and White Landscape Photography
Rough Timber Leads Through Grass Toward Calm Water
A rough wooden pier crosses the wetland grass on a diagonal, leading from the near corner toward a broad stretch of calm water. I photographed this scene in Mexico in 2012. The handmade-looking railings and uneven boards drew my attention, giving the foreground a distinct shape against the softer textures of grass, water and cloud. It is a landscape with a clear route for the eye, followed by plenty of open space.
Beyond the end of the pier, the water forms a pale horizontal band beneath a low tree line. Large clouds gather above it, their bright tops and darker undersides providing much of the scene’s depth. I like how the composition moves through three very different surfaces: fine grass in the foreground, nearly smooth water in the middle and substantial clouds overhead. The pier ties those layers together with its repeated uprights and long rails. Black and white makes their differences particularly easy to appreciate, from the grain of the timber to the soft changes of tone across the sky.
The photograph brings a relaxed lakeside feeling while retaining the character of the weathered structure. Its broad arrangement can open up a living room or a quiet reading space, especially for someone who enjoys water landscapes with a tangible foreground. I find the balance between the rustic pier and the expansive sky especially appealing. Each gives the other scale, allowing the scene to feel both approachable and spacious.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
