Geometric SAHMRI Facade Photography in Black and White
A Wide Field of Triangles Curves Around Dark Glass
This photograph turns SAHMRI’s exterior into a wide field of repeating triangles. I made it in Adelaide, Australia, keeping the frame close to the facade so that the building’s outline and the surrounding street disappear. What remains is a black and white arrangement of projecting forms, dark glass and intersecting diagonal lines.
The pattern changes across the width of the image. At the sides, bright triangular faces alternate with deep shadows. Towards the centre, more of the darker glazing shows through, crossed by a fine diamond-shaped grid. I like that gradual change: it gives the surface depth while keeping the repetition clear.
A broad curve sweeps across the lower part of the composition. Beneath it, the triangular pattern becomes larger and more open, with faint interior shapes visible through some sections of glass. Above it, the details tighten into smaller rows. Those variations stop the facade from reading as a flat decorative pattern; I can still sense the volume of the building behind it.
The wide horizontal format lets the eye travel sideways through the repeated forms. Monochrome keeps the contrast between their lit faces and shadowed undersides at the centre of the photograph. I see it working above a desk or along a modern living-room wall, especially where clean lines and neutral colours already have a place. Its interest comes from a single architectural system producing several different rhythms within the same view.
