A Saddled Nomad Horse Beneath Towering Mongolian Clouds
I photographed this saddled horse in Mongolia while living for a week in a remote yurt camp with nomadic eagle riders. That experience mattered because I was not passing quickly through the landscape. I had time to watch how the horses were used, how they waited, and how naturally they belonged to the open terrain. This image is part of my Mongolia photography collection, but it is also one of those photographs that reaches beyond geography.
The horse stands alone on a rocky slope, fitted with a dark saddle, stirrups, bridle, and a long rope trailing across the ground. Its pale coat is marked by dirt and use, while its lowered head and quiet stance suggest patience rather than performance. Behind it, broad mountain ridges move across the frame in layers of gray. Above, an enormous bank of clouds rises through most of the composition, giving the animal a sense of vulnerability beneath the weight of the weather.
What makes the photograph work for me is the balance between detail and scale. From across a room, the viewer first sees the solitary horse beneath the towering sky. Up close, the image reveals the worn leather tack, coarse mane, mud-darkened legs, scattered stones, sparse grass, and the rope cutting a thin line through the foreground. The black-and-white treatment strips away distraction and allows the textures of the horse, saddle, mountains, and clouds to hold the image together.
Although the horse is the central subject, the photograph is also about human presence without showing a person. The empty saddle implies a rider nearby. The equipment, posture, and setting speak quietly about travel, work, and the long relationship between nomadic people and their horses. That narrative quality gives it a natural place within my animal wall art collection, especially for collectors drawn to authentic working animals rather than posed equestrian portraits.
I see this print working particularly well in a living room, office, study, lodge, or country home where neutral tones and strong natural textures suit the space. It has enough drama to hold a wall, but the mood remains restrained, calm, and timeless. The vertical composition also makes it effective in narrower spaces where a large horizontal landscape would feel too expansive.
Each print is produced with archival pigment inks on Premium archival paper, personally signed by me, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The edition is limited to ten prints across all offered sizes.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
