Riveted Panels Hold Layers of Rust and Lettering
Rust, faded lettering, and riveted metal fill this colour photograph. Orange and ochre patches spread across darker brown and purple-grey panels, with small traces of green remaining in places. I moved in close to the surface, letting the weathered metal become the whole composition rather than showing the structure around it.
The panel seams provide a firm framework. Long horizontal lines curve across the image, crossed by narrower vertical joins and rows of rivets. Against that order, the paint and corrosion behave very differently. Their irregular edges overlap letters and marks, leaving some readable and others reduced to fragments of colour.
I was interested in how much was happening on a surface that might otherwise be overlooked. The larger orange areas establish the first impression, but finer changes appear as you spend time with it: peeling edges, darker stains, worn paint, and marks layered over earlier ones. I have left those details visible, because their complexity is the reason the photograph works.
As an industrial abstract, the image has a warm palette and a strong sense of material. It can sit comfortably among earthy colours, dark furniture, or simple interiors where one textured piece carries attention. The lettering keeps it connected to human activity, while the rust introduces a less controlled pattern. For me, the interest is in that meeting of deliberate marks and weathered metal, all held within the repeated lines of the panels.
