Weathered Sighisoara Walls Frame A Direct Gaze
Some portraits depend almost entirely on expression. This one is carried by the relationship between the man and the place around him. In Sighisoara, Romania, I framed him slightly left of center, leaving the weathered architecture to occupy much of the photograph. His broad hat throws shadow across his forehead while the light catches his face, mustache, patterned sweater, and heavy jacket. Behind him, worn plaster, rough masonry, deep shadows, and an irregular opening in the wall give the photograph a physical sense of age and place.
What keeps me looking is his expression. His mouth is slightly open, almost as though the photograph caught a sentence rather than a pose, while his eyes remain connected to the camera. That immediacy places the image naturally within my black and white street portrait photography, where the individual matters as much as the surroundings. Here, the background is not simply decoration. Its cracked and weathered surfaces repeat the textures found in his clothing and face, tying the portrait together visually.
I chose black and white because the photograph is fundamentally about light, surface, character, and form. Removing color allows the dark hat and jacket to anchor the frame while his illuminated face becomes the unmistakable focal point. From there, my eye moves outward through his clothing and into the old wall behind him. The large area of architecture also gives the portrait room to breathe, making this as much an environmental portrait as a study of one man's face.
I offer this photograph as a limited edition of only 10 prints. Each print is produced with archival pigment inks on premium archival paper, personally signed, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The monochrome palette and horizontal composition make it particularly suited to collectors drawn to documentary photography, expressive portraits, older architecture, and human-centered imagery rather than conventional decorative subjects.
For me, the lasting strength of the photograph is the contrast between a very individual human presence and the timeworn setting surrounding him. For related photographs rooted in people, place, and the visual character of the country, I include this image within my Romanian wall art photography.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.
Premium Archival Fine Art Prints
I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.
