Canadian Rockies Bare Trees and Snowy Peaks Black and White Photography
Slender Trunks Across a Slope Facing Distant Mountain Ridges
The bare trees make a fine pattern in front of the much larger mountains in this Canadian Rockies photograph. I kept several of the nearest trunks prominent, allowing their sparse branches to cross the distant ridges. The slope drops toward a valley, while snow remains visible on the peaks beyond it. That combination of close lines and distant masses gives the view its depth.
The foreground is not empty. Low vegetation covers much of the ground, with scattered stones, fallen branches and small conifers among the taller bare trunks. I like the changes in scale there: a compact young tree beside a long, thin stem, then a whole hillside carrying many more vertical lines. The opposing slope has its own dense texture, becoming less distinct as it descends toward the lighter distance.
Above the valley, the mountain skyline forms a sequence of uneven peaks. Dark rock interrupts the snow, and small clouds continue across the sky. Black and white lets the near trees remain clear without losing the softer tones farther away. I wanted to preserve the view through the trunks rather than remove them from the composition. They give the landscape a particular foreground, one whose small branches and rough surfaces stay present alongside the broad valley and snowy ridges. Looking at the photograph, I move between those distances, following a close branch before returning to the larger mountain outline.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
