Haarlem Wine Bar and Bicycles Black and White Night Photography
A Lit Corner Entrance Opposite a Row of Bicycles
I stopped across the street from this little corner wine bar while walking near Haarlem’s Grote Markt after dark. The entrance was lit, the bicycles gathered along the opposite wall, and the cobbled street gave the scene an open foreground. I photographed it in black and white, looking for the balance between that small pool of light and the darker building beyond.
The bar occupies the left side of the upright frame. Tall upper windows rise above a decorative iron balcony, while the lower glazing brings the light closer to street level. A hanging sign identifies Viqh beside the entrance. Below it, barrels and small outdoor tables add rounded shapes against the straighter lines of the windows.
Across the narrow street, the bicycles make a dense band near the ground. Their overlapping wheels and frames sit beneath rows of much more orderly windows. I wanted to keep them in the view because they give the corner a familiar Dutch scale: a place reached on foot or by bicycle, rather than only a building to admire.
I did not go inside that evening. The view from across the street was enough, with the curved edge of the paving leading toward the entrance and the upper facades falling into shadow. For me, the photograph keeps the quiet of that pause during the walk, while the lit windows suggest the life continuing beyond the empty street.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
