Cables and Shadows Rising Toward the Open Sky
Looking up changes the Puente de la Mujer into an arrangement of lines. The pale support rises through the frame, while dark cables arrive from the left and meet it at regular intervals. I photographed this detail in Buenos Aires in 2011, leaving the riverfront outside the picture so the bridge’s structure could hold the whole composition.
The perspective makes the nearer cables feel broad and widely separated. Higher up, the gaps narrow and the fittings grow smaller, pulling the eye toward the top of the support. There is a second rhythm in the shadows: sharp, tapered marks repeat across the white surface beside each cable. Those shadows give the structure depth and make its light-coloured planes easier to read.
Black and white brings the different lines together. The sky becomes a plain grey field, with little to interrupt the upward movement. I like the slight irregularities in the surface as much as the strong geometry. They remind me that this is a close view of a physical bridge, even though the image can look almost like a drawing from a distance.
This architectural wall art offers a clean focal point for an office, stairwell or contemporary living room. The more closely you look, the more the cable connections and their shadows distinguish themselves from the larger shape.
