Orange Evening Light Reflected Across The Wet Shore
An orange band of evening light remains above the California coastline as waves roll towards the shore. I liked the balance between the broad, almost clear sky and the more active water below. The colour changes gradually from blue overhead to warmer tones near the horizon, then appears again on the wet sand.
The shore curves gently through the foreground, bringing the eye into the scene without a sharp dividing line. Pale foam spreads across the darker water, and successive waves create loose horizontal bands farther out. Their soft edges give the photograph movement while the level horizon keeps the overall composition steady.
What interests me most is the reflection close to the beach. A warm patch of light reaches across the sand beside the cooler blue-grey surf, making the transition between land and sea feel especially clear. The dark strip at the lower edge provides a small anchor beneath that glow. There are few distractions, so the changes in colour and texture carry the image.
I photographed this view in 2010, north of Los Angeles, after the sun had dropped below the horizon. The remaining light was enough to give the coastline a gentle evening mood without a visible sun in the frame. As wall art, it offers a calm California seascape for a bedroom or living space, with soft waves and warm colour that can hold attention without demanding it.
