Peggy’s Cove Large Granite Boulders Black And White Photography
Rounded Shore Stones Beneath A Wall Of Cracked Granite
One broad stone sits in the shallow water near the foreground, with a smaller rounded rock beside it. Beyond them, granite gathers into much larger blocks, their surfaces crossed by dark cracks. I like the way these separate shapes build toward the back of the photograph, each giving the next a different sense of scale.
This Peggy’s Cove image comes from my 2014 visit to the Nova Scotia coast. The photograph stays close to the rocks and water, with only a narrow band of cloud above. Its interest is in the arrangement of the shoreline itself. Some stones are smoothly rounded; others are angular or divided by long fractures. A small patch of pebbles breaks the water near the centre.
The shallow pool has enough ripple to soften the reflections while leaving the bottom visible in places. In monochrome, that finer water texture is an effective counterpart to the heavier rock surfaces. The darkest tones gather in the gaps between boulders, helping each form stand out.
I find a steady, grounded mood in this scene. There is no need for a dramatic wave or a distant landmark; the granite already gives the eye plenty to explore.
For a cottage, living room or quiet study, this coastal photograph brings natural texture in a simple grey palette. It suits someone who remembers Peggy’s Cove through its rock formations, or who enjoys a landscape built from a few strong shapes and many smaller details.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
