North Pacific Ocean Shimmering Surface Abstract Aerial Photography
Bands Of Light Across Dark Textured Water
Seen from an airplane, the North Pacific Ocean becomes a field of small reflected lights and darker bands. I photographed this surface in 2011. The view contains only water, with no shoreline or horizon to set its scale. What remains is a close pattern of wave texture, shifting between pale highlights and deep green grey.
The brightest area spreads across the lower left and centre, where countless small points of light gather into a broad luminous patch. Toward the top and right, darker water becomes more prominent. Long, gently bending bands pass through the frame, giving the finer texture a larger structure. My eye follows those bands before returning to the tiny marks within them.
The restrained colour makes the image feel almost metallic in places. Warm grey highlights lie against cooler, darker tones, with none of the bright blue often associated with an ocean view. I like how the photograph holds both impressions at once: recognizable water and an abstract surface that could first be read simply as texture.
The vertical frame gives the pattern room to unfold. There is no single object at its centre, so attention can move across the image without settling on one fixed point. That is part of its appeal for me. It offers an ocean photograph through repetition and reflected light rather than a distant seascape, and would suit someone drawn to aerial views, natural abstraction or subdued tones with detailed surfaces.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
