Caddo Lake Autumn Cypress Trees in Mist Landscape Photography
Orange Branches and Broad Trunks Above Pale Foggy Water
I left before sunrise to photograph Caddo Lake, following the water while the cypress trees were still mostly silhouettes. As the morning light grew, their shapes became clearer through the low mist. This colour photograph centres on a broad trunk and spreading branches, with orange and yellow foliage above pale, fog-covered water.
The closest tree remains richly textured even in the soft light. Its lower trunk widens at the waterline, and smaller stems and leaves cross the darker bark. One long branch reaches toward the right, carrying thin patches of autumn colour into a more open part of the scene. I wanted to keep that reach visible rather than crop closely around the trunk.
Behind it, other cypress trees recede into grey tones. Spanish moss hangs among the branches, adding fine vertical strands to the background. The mist gathers near the water, softening the lower portions of those distant trees and making the foreground trunk stand out more clearly. Warm foliage and cool pale water give the view its restrained colour contrast.
What I remember most from that morning is how slowly the scene became visible. There was no single sudden change, just more detail emerging as the light and fog shifted. The photograph holds a point within that gradual reveal. The nearest tree has a firm presence, while the surrounding forest stays softer, leaving space for the quiet feeling of the lake at the start of the day.
