An Exposed Rear Frame Beside a Weathered Wooden Building
An old truck stands between a high stack of hay bales and a weathered wooden building at Lear Ranch in Currie, Nevada. Its cab and front wheels remain prominent, while the rear frame is exposed beneath the broad wall of hay. I photographed the scene in 2022 while walking through Currie. The close grouping of vehicle, farm materials and architecture gave this corner of the settlement a distinctive character.
The hay rises well above the truck, with individual bales forming a rough grid across the left side. Their fibrous surfaces contrast with the smoother panels of the cab. I like how the truck’s long horizontal shape sits beneath that much larger block, bringing a different scale into the composition. Small weeds gather around the wheels and lower frame, adding fine texture near the ground.
At the right, horizontal boards run across the two storey building. Dark and broken windows interrupt the siding, while the worn roof slopes toward the edge of the photograph. A stack of pallets and loose tires occupies the space between the truck and the wall, linking the foreground subjects to one another.
Clouds stretch across the open sky above, with distant low mountains visible through the gap. Black and white connects hay, timber and metal through their contrasting textures. As a print, this photograph offers a rural Nevada scene with several details to explore, suited to an interest in old trucks, ranch buildings and the weathered places of the American West.
