Walking through Tokyo at night has a way of slowing me down, even in a city that never truly settles. I remember turning into this quiet back alley and feeling the whole world shift from the familiar buzz of the main streets to a kind of hushed warmth. The glow spilling out from the doorways and the soft amber cast reflecting off the walls gave the scene a lived-in tenderness. These small neighbourhood passages, tucked away from the neon flash, are where the quieter stories of Tokyo unfold.
The building shown here carries that unmistakable character of older city districts—narrow doors, steel grates, tightly stacked utility lines, and the warm hum of air conditioners working through the night. The walls, painted in deeper earth tones, seem to hold the day’s heat while reflecting the faint light leaking from windows above. Tokyo’s architecture often balances between past and present, but places like this alley remind me how the city’s everyday spaces can be just as compelling as its iconic landmarks.
I’ve always been drawn to these layered environments. There’s a rhythm in the repeating doorways and vertical lines, in the way shadows break across the siding, and in the subtle reflections running along the pavement. The lighting here feels calm and intentional, as if the whole scene were arranged for the viewer to pause and take it all in. When I look at this image now, I can still feel that soft, warm air and hear the distant footsteps of someone winding their way home.
From a travel standpoint, scenes like this are some of my favourite moments to chase. They’re unassuming yet reveal a side of Tokyo most visitors overlook. Instead of crowds and noise, you find solitude. Instead of spectacle, you find nuance—textures of aged metal, muted reflections on wet pavement, and the glow of small lanterns marking someone’s doorway. These alleys have a kind of charm shaped by the people who rely on them every day.

This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.

I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.

Every print is personally produced, inspected, signed, numbered, and carefully packaged by me at my studio in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Worldwide delivery is included in the listed price, so there is no additional shipping charge added during checkout. I select an appropriate tracked delivery service based on the destination, print size, and current shipping requirements.
Delivery times vary by destination and may be affected by customs processing or circumstances beyond my control.
Because I also travel extensively to create new photographic work, studio dispatch may occasionally be delayed while I am away. When that happens, the print will be produced and shipped as soon as I return to the studio.
