Warm Tower Lights Above Red Leaves and Wet Pavement
The warm light on this tower drew me toward it during a night walk in Hokkaido. At LeTAO’s main store in Otaru, the illuminated upper levels stood above dark trees and autumn leaves. I had been letting the light guide my walk, and this view brought the building and the street together in a way that made me pause. The damp pavement below carried enough reflection to connect the glow overhead with the foreground.
I chose a vertical frame, keeping the tower above the trees rather than isolating it from the surrounding street. Red leaves spread across the left side, while yellow-green foliage overlaps the building at the right. The upper windows and bell arrangement catch a warmer amber light, with a blue circular detail providing a small contrast. Near the bottom, shop windows, a glass booth and the sidewalk introduce another set of shapes. The street continues into darkness beside the building, giving the view depth beyond the brightest areas.
Colour is central to how I see this photograph. The red foliage and amber lighting have a strong presence, but much of the scene remains dark enough for those colours to hold together. Reflections on the paving are softer and cooler, carrying the eye back toward the tower. I wanted to keep that balance rather than brighten every corner. The image preserves a particular moment during the walk, when an illuminated building, autumn trees and a damp street formed one connected night scene.
