Cypress Silhouettes Stand Against a Warm Evening Glow
The glow behind these cypress trees is what holds the scene together. At Caddo Lake, I photographed the dark trunks and delicate branches against a golden sunset, with warm light spreading across the water. This colour landscape print brings the trees’ distinctive shapes and the quiet atmosphere of the lake into the room.
The largest trees gather near the centre, their broad bases rising directly from the water. Smaller silhouettes extend to either side, giving each tree space to show its own lean and branching pattern. A low, dark shoreline sits behind them. Above it, the sky shifts from bright yellow near the horizon to a softer, muted tone higher up.
I made this photograph in 2021. Looking at it now, I am drawn as much to the water as to the sky. Small ripples break the reflections into wavering dark lines and bands of gold. The surface has movement, but it is gentle enough that the relationship between each trunk and its reflection remains clear. That balance gives the image its particular calm.
On a wall, the warm colour and tree silhouettes make a restful focal point for a living room or bedroom. It can appeal to someone who loves lakes, wetland landscapes or evenings spent outdoors. I like that the picture offers detail without asking for much from the viewer: a few shapes, a little light, and time to let the eye settle.
