Vintage Radios and Framed Pictures Around a Glass Counter
Walking into this small building near Ash Grove, Missouri, I found a room packed with Route 66 memorabilia. Radios, telephones, signs and framed pictures occupied nearly every available surface. I photographed the interior at Gay Parita in 2022, taking time to study how daylight entered through the windows and carried across the shelves. The room offered so many overlapping details that finding a clear composition became part of the experience.
The glass counter sits near the centre, holding smaller objects within its divided shelves. Around it, framed pictures lean against larger pieces, and small flags rise among the items above. I like how the counter provides a firm rectangle within the denser arrangement, giving the eye somewhere to pause before moving outward to the walls.
At the right, a vintage television has a pale green screen, with photographs and an old telephone resting above it. Radios fill shelves on the left, and lettering appears in different sizes throughout the room. A Route 66 Stop rug with a green dinosaur motif anchors the foreground, repeating the roadside identity in a larger, simpler graphic shape.
I photographed the space as I found it, allowing its collected objects and natural window light to remain the subject. Warm wood, muted greens and brighter small accents give the colour image depth without separating it into isolated details. As a print, it offers an interior to explore gradually, suited to an interest in vintage technology, Americana and the roadside collections encountered along Route 66.
