Faded Figures Beyond A Weathered Hospital Door
I photographed this doorway inside the abandoned Ellis Island Hospital in New York City, a place where age is visible in nearly every surface. The first thing that holds me is the door itself: layers of paint have lifted and split across the wood, leaving a dense pattern of cracks, scratches, exposed grain, and worn edges. Around it, coarse plaster walls create an equally weathered frame, their muted gray and brown tones interrupted by traces of faded green still clinging to the old door.
What makes the photograph more than a study of architectural decay is what appears beyond the glass. Faded human figures are visible in the dim interior, almost suspended within the doorway. Their dark clothing and indistinct faces sit behind the peeling woodwork, creating an unusual overlap between the physical deterioration of the building and the suggestion of people within it. That tension is what gives this weathered door wall art its visual pull. The door is tangible, rough, and highly detailed; the figures behind it are quieter, softer, and more elusive.
I kept the composition vertical because the narrow architecture naturally leads the eye upward through the frame. The broad textured wall on the left presses close to the doorway, while the right side opens enough to reveal a simple metal wall fixture and part of the corridor floor. Those secondary elements matter. They prevent the photograph from becoming an isolated study of a single door and instead place it within a larger abandoned institutional interior.
The restrained color also contributes to the character of the scene. Gray plaster, brown wood, shadowed interior tones, and remnants of old green paint allow texture to carry much of the photograph. Peeling surfaces, cracked timber, rough masonry, and darkened corners become as important as the doorway itself.
I offer this photograph as a limited edition of only 10 prints. Each print is personally signed, includes a certificate of authenticity, and is produced with archival pigment inks on premium archival paper. Its subdued palette and heavily textured architecture can work particularly well in interiors built around aged materials, industrial details, neutral tones, or historically inspired objects.
For collectors drawn to forgotten architecture, weathered interiors, and places where traces of the past remain visible, this photograph belongs naturally within my abandoned places wall art.

Limited Edition of 10
This photograph is released as a signed and numbered limited edition of only 10 prints in total across all available sizes combined—not 10 prints in each size.
Every size is drawn from the same edition. Whether the photograph is purchased as a small print or at the largest available size, it uses one of the 10 edition numbers.
I personally sign and number each print on the reverse, and every print is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity recording its title, dimensions, medium, edition number, and date of issue.
Once all 10 prints have been sold, the edition will be permanently closed. No additional numbered editions of the photograph will be produced in another size or format.
Premium Archival Fine Art Prints
I personally produce every photograph using archival pigment inks on premium archival paper with a subtle luster finish.
The paper provides rich tonal depth, excellent fine-detail reproduction, and a refined surface that reduces distracting glare under normal indoor lighting. It is especially well suited to both color and black-and-white photography.
Each photograph is sold as an unframed fine art print, allowing it to be framed according to the collector’s space and personal style.
Before a print leaves my studio, I carefully inspect it for color, tonal accuracy, surface quality, and overall presentation. Nothing is outsourced, and every finished print passes through my hands.
