Ellis Island Hospital Stock Room Black and White Interior Photography
Open Cupboards Recede Toward A Tall Frosted Window
I composed this Ellis Island Hospital stock room photograph from the entrance, letting the long counter lead toward the far window. The narrow room is filled with worn surfaces: chipped cupboard frames, peeling walls and a dust covered worktop. I made the image in 2019, drawn to the density of detail within such a small interior.
The cupboards run along the right wall, their glass fronted doors opening at different angles. Empty shelves remain visible inside, and the lower drawers add another sequence of rectangular shapes beneath the counter. I find those open doors important because they interrupt the otherwise continuous line of storage. They give the photograph more depth and let the eye move between the nearest frame and the smaller units farther away.
At the end of the room, a tall frosted window introduces a softer area of light. A small sink sits to its left, with a radiator below. The surrounding plaster and ceiling carry irregular patches where the finish has peeled away, contrasting with the more measured shapes of the cabinetry. Black and white keeps the photograph focused on those differences in texture and tone. What interests me is how ordinary fixtures retain a clear structure even within a deteriorated room. As a print, this view offers a detailed abandoned interior with a strong receding perspective and enough variation to reveal something new on a closer look.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
