Dubrovnik Stone Stairway and Old Town Lane Colour Photography
Laundry and Lanterns Above a Narrow Stone Stairway
Looking down this narrow Dubrovnik lane, I see a place shaped as much by daily life as by its stone buildings. Laundry crosses the gap overhead, plants crowd the edges of the steps and hanging lanterns punctuate the view. In this colour photograph, the pale masonry makes a warm setting for the greens, terracotta and small flashes of fabric.
The stairs lead the eye steadily downhill. Close walls rise on either side, revealing window grilles, shutters, drainpipes and the rough grain of individual stones. A wooden doorway sits just above the foreground plants. Beyond the washing lines, a glimpse of orange rooftops opens up the distance, offering a brief release from the intimate space of the lane.
I made this photograph in 2020, drawn to how much could fit into such a small passage. The potted greenery softens the hard surfaces, and the laundry gives the old architecture a present-day purpose. Those details keep the scene inhabited even though no one appears on the stairs. I wanted the photograph to retain that feeling of following a quiet route through someone’s neighbourhood.
For a room that could use warmth and a sense of discovery, this image offers a window into Dubrovnik’s everyday streets. It suits lovers of Croatia, old town architecture and travel photographs with domestic character.
The view rewards a slow look: first the descending steps, then the lanterns, and finally the layered life around them.

About My Fine Art Photography
Every photograph in my collection comes from my own travels, explorations, and years behind the camera.
I create my work as photographic art rather than mass-produced decoration. From street portraits and abandoned places to landscapes, architecture, and the unusual subjects I discover along the way, each image begins with something that made me stop and look.
My photographs are available in multiple sizes so the same image can work in anything from an intimate wall space to a large statement installation.
