Trinidad Cuba Musicians Mural Colour Street Photography
Painted Drummers and a Trumpeter in Bold Colour
Turquoise, coral and yellow spread through this mural of musicians in Trinidad, Cuba. I photographed a close section of the painted wall, allowing its figures and patterns to fill the frame. A trumpeter crosses the upper part of the image, while drummers occupy the foreground in overlapping shapes outlined with thick black lines.
The design is full of small changes in rhythm. Dots cover one area, short strokes fill another and a checkerboard pattern runs along the bottom. I like how those marks echo the musical subject without requiring the figures to look realistic. Their hands, instruments and expressive faces form a busy arrangement, but the strong outlines make individual details easy to follow.
The wall’s texture remains visible through the paint, reminding me that this is artwork encountered in a street setting. My photograph keeps that surface as part of the image, alongside the mural’s bright palette and closely fitted forms. What drew me to it was the feeling of colour and music brought together in a single public artwork.
